GREAT WHITE SHARK EXPEDITION DETAILS

The Coolest Shark

Frankly, once you get to know the great white shark you can only come to one conclusion, this fish is the coolest in the ocean. During the great white sharks’ annual autumn visit to Isla Guadalupe in search of elephant seals and tuna. We bring just 10 guests on each of these expeditions to guarantee maximum time with these remarkable animals in a respectful, non-obtrusive way. To attract the sharks we chum the water lightly to get their attention and then enter their world to admire them. We take this bold action one step at a time, all the while aware that this is a thoroughly wild animal and a fierce predator, but knowing that their reputation as a man-eater is largely unsubstantiated and undeserved. The Great White Shark is a slow-growing and long-lived shark. It gives birth to just a few young, which makes it highly vulnerable to over fishing and slow to recover from exploitation. Because of this, conservationists have been concerned with the vulnerability of the white shark to the point of possible extinction, and it is currently considered a species of concern in the IUCN, World Conservation Union Red List.

The Ultimate Diving Experience

From 1982 – 2005 I dove with great whites in Australia and South Africa, but for the last 8 years, I’ve only been going to Guadalupe Island to see them. For me and for the divers I bring along on this trip, it’s the best place on earth to interact with them — you just have to go there to believe it. The experience is unfiltered, completely real, better than reading a newspaper or getting a TV reporter’s view of the ocean and its wildlife.  Certainly, there are a lot of good sources out there to learn about great whites, but nothing can replace actually going to see them yourself to get up close and personal with these magnificent sharks. — Amos We’ve been cage diving with the Great White in Australia, South Africa, and Guadalupe since the early eighties. Since 1995, we’ve been swimming free with the great whites peacefully and without mishap.

Day 1 ARRIVE:San Diego and stay overnight at a hotel of your choice near the airport.

Day 2: By 8AM you met the van that take us to Mexico at the front of the Holiday inn (1355 North Harbor Drive San Diego) from here we head for Ensenada. This is usually a 90-minute ride, depending on border-crossing, visa formalities and traffic. As soon as we reach the port in Ensenada, we board our vessel. We leave at midday for our 18-hour crossing to Isla Guadalupe.

Days 3 — 6: ARRIVE Guadalupe around 10AM and as soon as the three cages are in the water, divers are invited to join the action. During our four days on site, the dive deck is open for action and excitement from 8AM to 5PM. DEPART: Guadalupe by 2PM on the last day of diving and start the 18-20 hour cruise back to Ensenada.

Day7: ARRIVE Ensenada at midday and return across the border to your hotel in San Diego or to the airport if you have a connecting flight on that day. Start preparing your cocktail party anecdotes; the week you just spent with the great whites will provide you with years’ worth of material.
