"NO" was my answer when a friend asked
if, after many years of diving, I had ever seen a Great White Shark.
Thinking about my answer prompted me to reconnect with Amos Nachoum
and I was soon headed to South Africa for some high voltage diving
and Amos' unique brand of photo instruction. A fringe benefit of
the trip turned out to be the numerous phone calls and emails that
came from old friends from all around the country when they saw
my Great White videos that I had licensed to the Travel Channel.
Thank you Amos !!

"In 1993 I read an article in National Geographic
about swimming with Killer Whales in Norway, and I knew right then
that it was something I HAD to do. Well, the anticipation of swimming
with those magnificent animals built for almost 10 years, until
November 2002, when I finally made the plunge - literally! It was
the most incredible adventure of my life and I can't wait to go
back! Let there be no mistake that when it comes to delivering up
close and personal encounters with big animals, Amos Nachoum and
BigAnimals.com DELIVER! If you don't believe me, just check out
some of the photos from my trip at www.jaywade.com."
- Jay Wade. Edmond, OK
"I spent a week 150 miles north of the Arctic
Circle in the month of November--why would anyone do that?? Well,
as the mountain climbers say--that's where the Orcas are. I snorkeled
with an expedition led by Amos Nachoum to a fjord in Northern Norway
to have close encounters with the top of the food chain in the ocean.
We spent 5 or 6 hours a day freezing our butts off, but IT WAS WORTH
IT! We got up close and personal with many pods of orcas as they
came to the area to feed on herring. The first time, when Amos said,
"OK slide into the water and swim slowly toward them",
I looked at my buddy Mike and after a fearful grimace we did it.
As the Orcas swam by, we dropped to 10 feet and became part of their
environment. A female and her 10' baby paused as they went by, looked
at us with their toothy smile and kept going. That trip was one
I will never forget, the Orcas, the 38 degree water, the 4 inches
of snow on the deck..."

"As a younger photographer with a new freelance
photography and writing business, Amos helped teach me not only
how to push for unique photos but also how to work with people --
guides, contacts, etc. -- to help me get those photos. He has been
a wonderful resource of information for me while starting my business,
as well as a sounding board for ideas and direction. I consider
him a mentor."
- Oakly Cochran. Firbanks, Alaska
I have known Amos Nachoum for over 20 years &
he has always been on the cutting edge of photography, destinations,
and life. I recently invited him to give a program for our LOUP
(League of U/W Photographers) group at the Shedd Aquarium &
he held everyone spellbound for over 2 hours with his spectacular
images and stories. Amos is a true professional and I am lucky to
have him as a friend.
- Lynn Funkhouser. Photographer
"I initially wanted to go on a trip with Amos
because I saw his work on national geographic TV and in a lot of
magazines; and since then, I have been on 3 trips with him. I keep
returning because no one offers what he does in small groups, unhurried
photo- ops. incredible experiences, and I know I am getting my investment
worth."
- David levitt. San Jose, CA
" I've done amazing trips with Amos; swimming
with Humpbacks whales, Orcas, Blue Whales and Great White Sharks
and I have walked in the footsteps of Shackleton with Amos in South
Georgia and Antarctica. I have made eight trips with Amos, and this
speak for itself."
- Barbara Doerr. Milwaukee, WI
"I was shoulder to to shoulder with Amos when
he took this amazing "Air Jaws" photo. And my photos turned
out great as well - thanks to his coaching. There are others that
claim to be able to provide the opportunity of a lifetime but few
can deliver like Big Animals Photography Expeditions. If you have
dreamed of going on an exotic, adrenaline rushing adventure, than
stop dreaming and start living and call Amos."
- Bobby Scandura. Boston, MA
" After watching Shark Week on the dicovery Channel
I searched the web looking for a shark diving expedition for everyday
people like me. No other web site came close to being as comprehensive
and rich in images than BigAnimals.com. I signed up right and there
and couldn't be happier that I did".
- Bill DeVera. Los Angeles. CA
When I first read your article about the Orca gathering
in Tysfjord I knew I immediately that I will do the long trip from
Israel to see this magnificent creature. A year later we have met
on board of the boat and had an unforgettable week with you, My
son Shahar that came along with me still can not forget the amazing
adventure we all had together.

Amos Nachoum is one of the premier underwater (and
above for that matter) nature photographers in the world. His devotion
and willingness to push the frontiers of underwater photogaphy (both
with challenging subject matter - whales, and large sharks in blue
water for instance, along with exploring new locations) sets him
apart from the crowd. I have had the opportunity to dive with Amos,
and he has been a great mentor of mine over the years. I might add
that if and when things get tough, he is the one I would want to
be with.
Wolcott Henry. Washington DC.
"Due to my background in Field Zoology I religiously
avoid participating in group experiences designed to provide interactions
with animals in natural environments because of what I consider
to be the general trivalization of the majesty of animals targets
for such experiences. I made an exception to this practice for the
first time in 1993 after viewing the photography of Amos Nachoum
and subsequently meeting him. In the years since I have been on
four trips with Amos, and would enthusiastically recommend his trips
to any person interested in interacting with "big animals"
via the overwhelming respect and passion Amos has for these magnificant
creature and the processes for photographing them. I have experienced
true wonderment on every trip with Amos as a result of finding myself
in close proximity to magnificant animals and Amos, a person with
genuine passion."
J. Michael Whitaker. Memphis TN
"Our adventures with Amos opened our eyes to
a whole new world of diving and adventure traveling! With Amos,
we've been face-to-face with dolphins, giant mantas, sharks and
Orcas. Together, we've explored the fjords of Norway, the sandy
banks of the Bahamas and the cities and islands of yesteryear in
Cuba. Amos will take you places no one else will go. He'll show
you things no one else can show you. His passion for adventure is
contagious!"
Amy & Greg Norris. Marietta, GA
"I have known Amos for many years and have traveled
with him to several parts of the world in search of big animal adventure.
I am always amazed at his drive and perserverence in getting the
'right shot.' And he always gets it! He is one of the finest wildlife
photographers I know."

"Where would we be without Amos? We would be
alone... underwater... flying in our winged submersibles... without
anyone ever knowing what it looks and feels like to fly underwater.
Thanks to Amos, and his tremendous ability to capture images in

is now able to enjoy the amazing world of our blue planet."

Amos and I spent a lot of time together in Africa
on an Explorers Club Flag Expedition Few, if any, underwater photographers
have ever been as easy to travel and work with as Amos. He is the
finest underwater photographer in the business, can drive anything
with wheels, and always keeps his sense of humor -- even when things
don’t go as planned. Amos is a generous and kind man who is
deeply commitment to marine conservation. I’d work with him
again in a heartbeat!
